Ginger's Therapeutic Massage
Spokane, Washington
Swedish massage technique was developed by a Swedish physiologist, Henri Peter Ling, while working at the University of Stockholm in 1812. It is the type of massage
that is commonly offered and is the best known of the various massage types.
Using firm but gentle pressure, its goal is to improve circulation, alleviate muscle aches and tension, aid the improvement of flexibility and develop a relaxed sensation for the client.
Five different movements are used during Swedish massage:
During the session, the therapist usually applies massage oil to aid in making long, smooth strokes over the body. The massage is done with the person draped by a sheet, one part of the body uncovered at a time, massaged, and then covered again before massaging the next part of the body. This helps keep the person warm and enhances the feeling of relaxation.
Swedish massage is the basis for other types of Western massage, such as sports, deep tissue massage and aromatherapy.

Reiki is a gentle Japanese therapy that appears to be as simple as "laying on of hands." However, as the therapist, it is not my strong energy healing you, as the client; it is your body, using me, to draw healing into you. While this is not a major component of my massage repertoire, I am trained in Reiki. Reiki can be good for general relaxation or for healing wounds and/or injuries.
The theory behind Reflexology is that a "map" on the hands or feet relate to various other parts of the body. By working these points (which are often tender when there is an acute or chronic symptom), healing takes place on the 'reflected' area of the body. Again, this is not a major component of my repertoire, but if you want this method, I can provide it to you.
